Take a
Tour
The current home on this property was designed by an architect that studied under Frank Lloyd Wright, and built by late historian Don Clowser (be sure to visit Don's outstanding collection of Native and Early White American artifacts at the Days of ’76 Museum -- north end of Main). The style demonstrates a modern merger of beauty and functionality resulting in exceptional energy conservation through passive solar design.

The architecture utilizes materials with high thermal and natural convection properties for optimal heat gain and uniform circulation throughout the three-level living area. The entire structure is burmed into the steep hillside of aspen, oak, ash, Ponderosa pine, birch, and Virginia Creeper to the north and west to enhance thermal efficiency, aesthetics and privacy.

A gas grill and lounge chairs on the deck further enhance the usability of this unique home. The interior design incorporates several elements recycled from local history. Beams used in the vaulted ceilings were transported to the building site from a local historic site. The 12-foot-high solid oak doors to the sunroom were salvaged from the old Bullock Hotel. Hardwood flooring used throughout was rescued from the old Newel High School gymnasium. Banks of 8 foot tall windows and skylights, upstairs and down, transfer the marvelous views indoors for a bright and airy atmosphere.
